In Softvision
Explorer, planned operations allow periodically executing several tasks
(backup, sending messages, etc.) completely automatically. You must specify the
type and time when each operation must be executed.
Let's take a detailed look at the
tasks that can be planned:
Complete Backup, Partial Backup and Image Backup:
the first type of backup is analogous to that
created by the
Manual Backup
(function, so long as the item "Include Image Files" is not deactivated), while
an "image backup" will only save user data, without the surfing sessions, and
images of documents. The advantage of this latter type of backup is that it is
extremely fast (1 or 2 seconds) and doesn't take up a lot of space (typically a
few Kb), so that it can also be executed several times a day. A complete backup
can even require several tens of Mb. Finally, the latter type of backup saves
only images of user documents. The data of the backup is saved in a folder
specified by the user, in which three subfolders are created, one for complete
backups, one for partial backups and another for the images. In order to limit
the space taken by backup files on disk, you can specify whether or not to
delete backups older than a certain number of days.
Archive Compaction: this plans the execution
of archive
compaction in order to improve system performance.
Enabling/Disabling functions: this type of
operation turns Hotspot and VoIP functions on and off on access through login
and password and access through pre-paid tickets. For example, with this
function it is possible to make Hotspot access available only during certain
hours of the day using two planned operations for turning the Hotspot on and
off.
Start/Stop Stations: turns the PCs of the
surfing stations on (through Wake On Lan) or off.
Notices to Stations: sends a
User Notice to the surfing stations.
Archive Clean-Up: deletes some data from the
program archive to make it leaner and more efficient. For old sessions, you can
delete data for the sites visited (logs), telephone calls and the applications
executed. It is also possible to delete users who have not connected in a
certain number of days.
Closing old sessions: automatically closes
sessions that have been open for a certain number of hours.
Parameter Alignment: this executes a
parameter alignment
procedure by selecting it from among those available.
SQL Execution: this executes an SQL command on
the database. For example, you could write an SQL script that periodically
resets the credit of all users by entering the SQL statement:
"Update Users Set Balance=0"
Each of the preceding operations can be executed using the following types of planning:
Every Day: executes the operation at a determined time of the day, every X days and, the operation can even be repeated at regular time intervals up to a certain time of the day.
Every Week/Month: like the preceding but it executes the operation on determined days of the week or month.
Only One Time: the operation will only be executed once, at the indicated date and time.
Upon the start-up or shutdown of the server: the operation is executed when the server is started up or shutdown (when the Server PC is turned on or off).
By using the "Execute Now" button, you can also execute the selected operation immediately without waiting for the set day and time.
