Hotspot Software : Creation and modification of a Location

We can define a location as an area in which the wireless signal of a RADIUS Hotspot is broadcast.
The modification and creation of a new location can be carried out by the 'RADIUS Hotspot' section in the 'Preferences' function.

Let's look in detail at the meaning of the various entries in this page:

  • Description: is an arbitrary name associated to the location. The configuration script will automatically assign the typed-in text in this field to the SSID of the wireless router.

  • Location enabled: indicates if access to this location is possible or not.

  • RADIUS NAS Identifier: is an arbitrary, alphanumeric code that unequivically identifies the system (NAS).

  • Firmware: allows indication of the firmware installed in the router.

  • WAN Port: contains the setup of the wireless router's WAN Port. In particular it is possible to indicate if the router is connected to the local network and the set up of the IP address. The latter, in the case of a local network, is to be set up to an address contained in the subnet of the ADSL Router. (for example 192.168.0.100 if the ADSL router has the address 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.1.35 if the IP of the ADSL router is 192.168.1.1). If the location is remote, or rather connected to a different ADSL router than that connected to the server, the IP address must contain the public IP of the remote ADSL router (e.g., 78.56.34.45)

  • Hotspot interface :allows you to choose whether to use the default hotspot interface or manually specify one (eg eth0, eth1, br0, etc..).

  • Separate WI-FI from LAN : enabling this, hotspot access is allowed only via WI-FI. Otherwise you can also connect to the LAN ports, a situation which is useful when you want to connect access points to the LAN ports of the router in order to expand the area covered by the signal.

  • Websites allowed: this indicates which websites can be accessed by a user who is not logged-in (such as PayPal).

  • Router Account: allows insertion of the router wireless access credentials.

  • Geographic position: allows the specification of the geographic position of the location in the 'Address' and 'City' fields.

By using the 'SEND SSH' button it is possible to transmit to the router the configuration script based on the data inserted in this window. For successful transmission it is important that the SSH access on the WAN Port is enabled in the router. The configuration script can also be visualised via the 'Visualise' button, or online at http://IP-Server/setup.htm
